Local Residents Honored for 2003 Federal Service

HOLYOKE, Mass., Sept. 26, 2003 – The 1ST Annual Excellence in Government Awards have been announced by the Federal Executive Association of Western Massachusetts (FEAWM). These awards honor the “best and the brightest” in local federal service. Awards have been presented to outstanding federal employees in 12 categories.

FEAWM board members David Tuttle, State Director of USDA Rural Development in Amherst, and Jeffrey Anliker, Assistant State Conservationist for USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service in Amherst, announced the following winners:

  • Distinguished Federal Manager: Bruce Gordon of Easthampton, Medical Center Director for the VA Medical Center in Northampton * Tammy Vezina of Chicopee, Superintendent, Military Personnel Flight, 439th Mission Support Squadron at the Westover Joint Air Reserve Base, Chicopee
  • Distinguished Federal Supervisor: David Washburn of Brockton, Supervisory General Engineer for the US Fish & Wildlife Service in Hadley
  • Administrative Assistant of the Year: Angela Boissonault of Wilbraham, Secretary for the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service in Amherst
  • Support Person of the Year: Felipe Morales of Springfield, Health Technician for the VA Medical Center in Leeds
  • Outstanding Service/Trade Employee of the Year: Sherman Tiggle, Mail Handler for the Springfield Bulk Mail Center
  • Professional Employee of the Year: Christine Nolan of Ayer, Accountant for the US Fish & Wildlife Service in Hadley
  • Technical/Scientific Employee of the Year: Curt Orvis of East Middlebury, VT, Hydraulic Engineer for the US Fish & Wildlife Service in Hadley
  • Outstanding Federal Volunteer: Beverly Daignault of Pittsfield, Secretary for the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service in Pittsfield
  • Outstanding Individual Customer Service Effort: Sandra Eddy of Easthampton, Enrollment Eligibility Specialist for the VA Medical Center in Northampton
  • Award for Creativity and Innovation: Stephen Quigley of Florence, Sanitation Supervisor for the VA Medical Center in Northampton
  • Outstanding Community Service: Technical Seargent Jon-Gary Williams of Holland, MA, C-5 Aircraft Maintenance Technician, 439th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, Westover Joint Air Reserve Base, Chicopee
  • Outstanding Diversity Contribution: Cecil Currin of Hadley, State Conservationist for the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service in Amherst

The FEAWM is an association of more than 20 federal agencies that serve the people of western Massachusetts. The FEAWM includes leaders from the departments of Agriculture, Defense, Interior, Justice, Labor, Treasury and Veterans Affairs, as well as the District Court, Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., General Services Administration, Small Business Administration and the Social Security Administration.
